PlantMegaPack: Really I'm just recommending that you get at least one mod that focuses on plants, but PlantMegaPack is my favorite. Not to be confused with a Bukkit plugin that has the same name. MultiWorld: lets you create dimensions with whitelists of allowed biomes. The config files let you add trades to the computer, as well as new smelting recipes to the stove, new freezing recipes to the freezer and new chopping recipes to the cutting board. Highlights include a washing machine that fixes your armor, a dishwasher that fixes some of your tools, a computer that can be traded with like a villager (it pretends you're using eBay), and a computer printer that can copy books. MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod: the most popular tables+chairs mod around, this also adds a few useful machines.

Nothing like carrying around a 3x3x3 chest of useful machines. GeoChests: lets you cut and paste areas of blocks, from 3x3x3 to 11x11x11 (depending on which geochest you craft). There's even a blank pocket dimension you can build in (it gives you a 22x22x22 area). Less efficient but adds to the atmosphere of the game.Дimensional Doors: Doors that lead to pocket dimensions with booby trapped rooms. Click on a specific space on the 3x3 grid painted on top of the crafting table pillar to place items there, click on the middle of the furnace pillar with coal to load fuel into it, etc. Instead of a window popping up you interact directly with the surface. I set mine to spawn in the starter chest and use ruins to make buildings that have those chests as treasure chests.Д¬rafting Pillars: just creates pillars (like the quartz pillar block) that act as GUI blocks (furnace, crafting table, anvil, etc) without the GUI. CMD adds as many new records as you want without overwriting the old ones. You use a scraper to get cell samples from a living creature (attack them with a scalpel in other words) then put it thru 7 machines (it's grindy to simulate how much work real genetic engineering is).Д¬ustomMusicDiscs: Sure you can just use a resource pack to replace the 12 vanilla records with 12 records by your favorite band, but you've still got only 12 records to work with. If you use Galacticraft I highly recommend also using Archimedes' Ships (rockets only go up not sideways and you'll need something to get around the asteroid belt dimension) and GeoChests (for moving Galacticraft machines that erase their contents when mined).ДЄdvanced Genetics: lets you copy abilities off creatures (like a spider's wallcrawling or a chicken's fall damage immunity). Galacticraft: NASA style spacetravel mod with destinations in our solar system as 1-biome dimensions you travel to via rocket. Ruins: lets you add structures to the temples listДЄrchimedes' Ships: lets you build sailing ships or airships out of blocks.

Just install forge for the version of minecraft you want (most mods are on 1.7.10 or 1.10.2 right now), download mods that interest you from a safe site, drop the unopened mods into the. Installing mods for the default launcher is basically easy. But normally you'd use the default launcher. If you want modpacks you should use a modpack launcher like FeedTheBeast (I hear it uses the curse launcher now) Technic or ATLauncher. Well there's mods and there's modpacks (pre-selected groups of mods, possibly also with config changes, crafting recipe changes, or 'you can only play on one pregenerated world' changes).
